Code of Ethics

WALP’s Code of Ethics describes the principles of conduct we, as professionals, embrace for the betterment of our trade, the integrity of the profession and in the best interests of the Public Trust. WALP’s Code of Ethics speak clearly of our members active support of those principles that exemplify business and technical excellence making our trade the embodiment of integrity, knowledge and fairness for our clients, customers, and employees.

As WALP members we are dedicated and have a responsibility to:

  • Conduct business in a professional manner.
  • Practice honesty in advertising, proposals, and representation of capabilities.
  • Provide information based on honest, scientific, accurate, and factual knowledge.
  • Operate in an environmentally safe manner.
  • Adhere to all contractual obligations in essence and spirit.
  • Perform work or supply goods according to accepted industry standards and/or specifications written in the contract,
  • Deal fairly with subcontractors and suppliers. Recognize the importance of a strong relationship with vendors (suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and business service providers).
  • Follow all vendor directions and recommendations for products, chemicals, and equipment. Vendors must report product testing and use results accurately.
  • Abide by all laws and regulations affecting our industry and support the enforcement of these laws.
  • Adhere to the Bylaws of the Association.
  • Avoid and condemn practices which tend to discredit the industry.
  • Avoid making unfounded statements, which, in any way, might injure the professional reputation of another.
  • Provide constructive professional criticism when necessary to ensure the continued quality of goods and services.
  • Strive to participate in continuing education to improve professional knowledge and skills and keep abreast of new developments in the industry.
  • Strive to attain certification.
  • Encourage education and research within the horticultural field.
  • Respect colleagues and the endeavors of colleagues.
  • Encourage equal opportunities for all people in education and employment without regard to race, color, creed, or national origin.
  • Attract to the profession those who possess a high degree of honesty, courtesy, integrity and competence.
  • Use sound professional management practices and encourage employees to respond to their peers in a respectful manner.
  • Develop, promote, and reinforce good safety practices throughout all phases of operations.
  • Offer employees a fair and safe working environment, educational possibilities, and career opportunities.
  • Promote the standards set forth in this Code of Ethics to all customers, nonmember industry representatives, suppliers, and fellow lawn and landscape companies.
